Movie of the 4D evolution (3D with time) of part of the model illustrating the formation of a transfer zone. The transfer zone is a lateral ramp that forms as a result of lateral rheological changes at the base of the model. The area covered by X-ray CT analysis is shown in Figure 5. (see accompanying paper). In contrast to Movie_A3 the brittle domain is now closest to the viewer. Each movie frame shows a perspective 3D view that consists of 88 serial cross-sections. Each cross-section represents a 2 mm thick CT slice. Dimensions of undeformed view in first movie frame are 27 cm x 17.6 cm x 3 cm. Shortening increment between frames is 1 cm. Quartz sand = orange, corundum sand = dark yellow.
