1–7 s: cylinder rotates randomly in space. 8–13 s: cylinder rotates about an inclined axis, illustrating the effect of adding borehole orientation information. 14 s: cylinder becomes stationary, illustrating the effect of adding magnetometer data (down now known). 15–18 s: cylinder is cut along borehole high side and unfolded to provide 2D representation illustrated in Fig 9a.
