Supplementary Table 1. Calcareous nannofossil data from the Göynük composite section. Semiquantitative estimates of abundances are based on specimens per field of view (FOV): (A) abundant > 10 specimen/FOV, (C) common = 2–10 specimen/FOV, (F) few — 1 specimen per 1 to 9 FOW, (R) rare — 1 specimen per 10–100 FOV. Preservation was assessed using a scale ranging from (G) good — no clear indication of overgrowths or dissolution, (M) moderate — signs of overgrowths or dissolution, most of the specimens could still be identified at least at the genus level, (P) poor — abundant and strong overgrowths or dissolution, determination at species and genus level often questionable. Species abundance highlighted grey indicates ranges of biostratigraphicylly significant marker taxa, blue indicates cooler-water nannofossil species.
